Since 2014, each year the Bot\u00edn Foundation’s Water Observatory has been awarding prizes to innovative ideas and projects in water management developed by professionals and researchers in the world of water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
2025 Edition<\/strong>. The prize in category A (M.R. Llamas Young Talent Award) went to Ignacio Zapico Alonso and Eduardo S\u00e1nchez L\u00f3pez (Catch The Sediment project for detecting sediment pollution); in Category B (Projects and creations in the plastic, graphic, audiovisual, scenic, and performing arts related to water), the award went to Claudia Ver\u00f3nica M\u00fcller Montes (Vaiv\u00e9n project); and in Category C (Actions and initiatives aimed at improving aquatic or terrestrial ecosystems related to continental water bodies), the award went to the Iberian Center for River Restoration, CIREF (Liberando al r\u00edo Ega project).<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2024 Edition.<\/strong> The award for Cateogry A (\u201cM.R. Llamas Young Talent\u201d) was given ex aequo<\/em> to Oriol Carb\u00f3 Monmany and Jaume Teixid\u00f3 Zabay for their project ‘Programox’ and Juan Felipe Torres, for his advances in thermodiffusive desalination. In Category B (education or dissemination project about water), the award went ex aequo to the Alianza por el Agua de Ibiza y Formentera and Ana Paula Mejorada Torres, for their \u2018El agua en la Escuela<\/a>\u2019 and \u2018Escuelas de lluvia<\/a>\u2019 projects, respectively. Finally, the Category C prize (given to water user collectives) was awarded to the Sociedad Civil Particular Urbanizaci\u00f3n Valle R. Los Monasterios. The Category A prize of the ninth edition was awarded to the collective candidacy of Manuel del Jesus Pe\u00f1il, Salvador Navas Fern\u00e1ndez and Dina V. G\u00f3mez Rave (IHCantabria) for their Methodological guide for the estimation of minimum contributions to reservoirs in the context of climate change<\/em><\/a>. In Category B, the citizen science project \u2018FuenArag\u00f3n<\/a>\u2019, developed by the Centro de Investigaci\u00f3n y Tecnolog\u00eda Agroalimentaria de Arag\u00f3n (CITA), the Instituto Pirenaico de Ecolog\u00eda from the CSIC and the IBERCIVIS Foundation, was awarded. And in Category C, awards were given ex aequo<\/em> to Alba Ballester for the \u2018Ebro Resilience Strategy<\/a>\u2019 and to the Fundaci\u00f3n Ecol\u00f3gica El Porvenir (Colombia) for the initiative \u2018The Tequendama Falls have a future<\/a>\u2019. The award for Category A of the eighth edition was given to the Corporativo de Servicios Ambientales de Sustentabilidad de CPlantae SRL de CV (M\u00e9xico)<\/a>, for the project CPlantae: young entrepreneurship with worms to provide sanitation in Mexico<\/em>. In Category B, Medio Ambiente, Agua, Residuos y Energ\u00eda de Cantabria \u2013 MARE (Spain)<\/a> was awarded ex aequo<\/em> for its project The water drop\u2019s voyage. School awareness program<\/em> as well as the candidacy of the organizations Fundaci\u00f3n Manzana Verde, Bestias del Sur Salvaje, Fundaci\u00f3n Nahuelbuta, Arauko Ind\u00f3mito and PRELA B\u00edobio<\/a> (Chile), for their project \u2018K\u00fcmelko: learning from water<\/a>\u2019. And in Category C, the candidacy of Aaron Wolf<\/a> (United States) was awarded as a mentor for young talent in the water management field. More information<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2021 Edition<\/strong>. In this edition, the Category A prizes were awarded ex-aequo<\/em> to Raquel Garc\u00eda Pacheco<\/a> and Borja Garrido Arias, for the application of advanced techniques for the sustainable recovery of reverse osmosis membranes (\u2018Ecomemb\u2019) and for the reuse of washing effluents in the food industry, respectively. In Category B, the collective candidacy of Patricia Carbonell Rodr\u00edguez, Momeb Bakry and Marta Castillo was awarded for the video \u2018The Fresh Water Short Film<\/a>\u2019 on the water footprint of Categoryrn society. And in Category C, two ex-aequo<\/em> awards were given to Sarai D\u00edaz Garc\u00eda for the scientific dissemination project \u2018#50lwaterchallenge – Climate Change, Here and Now<\/a>\u2019, and to a collective educational project by EMALCSA (Empresa Municipal de Aguas de La Coru\u00f1a S.A.) and Asociaci\u00f3n Desenvolvemento Rural Mari\u00f1as \u2013 Betanzos<\/a> called \u2018A auga non para\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2019 Edition<\/strong>. The winners of this edition were Ricardo Mart\u00ednez Vives, engineer at Useful Wastes<\/a>, for the development of a technology for the valorization of brine produced in the desalination process; NGO TADEH<\/a> for its \u2018Mobile Water School\u2019, which seeks to train the local population to facilitate access to water and sanitation in vulnerable communities. In addition, two ex-aequo<\/em> awards were given to the Eladia Marino Plurilingual School from Cabanas<\/a> (A Coru\u00f1a) and the water supply company EMASESA<\/a> for their educational projects entitled Drinking Water, a Universal Right. The Bot\u00edn Foundation awarded H\u00e8ctor Moncl\u00fas Sales for his \u2018DrinkIA<\/a>\u2019 project to support decision-making in water purification treatments; Dustin Garrick<\/a> Sonia Hoque<\/a>, Jane Zhao<\/a>, Paul Ekwar<\/a>, Jacob Katuva<\/a> and Ciff Nyaga<\/a> for their \u2018Water tracking app\u2019 to track water supplied by informal water vendors in developing countries; and Andr\u00e9s D\u00edez Herrero<\/a> for his training program in the children’s colony \u2018Venero Claro\u2019. The winners were Xavier Bellmunt Mancebo<\/a>, for his project Design of a portable drinking water supply system using Direct Osmosis and management in situations of water deficit<\/em>; Alejandro Maceira Rozados, for having created the digital media iAgua<\/a>; and Diego Felipe Ar\u00e9valo Uribe<\/a>, for the Evaluation of the water footprint in Colombian watersheds within the framework of ENA2014<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2014 Edition<\/strong>.
