Since 1994 renowned artists have passed through the Art Workshops<\/strong>, spending a coupe of weeks closely working with young artists from all over the world who come to Santander for this activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Juan Usl\u00e9, Gabriel Orozco, Juli\u00e2o Sarmento, Miroslaw Balka, Antoni Muntadas, Jannis Kounellis, Mona Hatoum, Paul Graham, Lothar Baumgarten, Tacita Dean, Carlos Garaicoa, Julie Mehretu, Joan Jonas, Carsten H\u00f6ller, Cristina Iglesias, Martin Creed, Dami\u00e1n Ortega y Roni Horn are just some of the artists-directors that have worked with the Fundaci\u00f3n Bot\u00edn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Art workshops<\/h4>\n

Workshop by Roni Horn<\/h5>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The workshop, led by Roni Horn in collaboration with Isabel de Naver\u00e1n, will be held at Fundaci\u00f3n Bot\u00edn from March 20 to 24, 2023, under the title Being Where You are When You\u2019re There. There will be an initial online session to take place early March.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Each participant will produce a \u2018log\u2018, which is defined in the dictionary as \u2018A record of performance, events, or day-to-day activities\u2018. In this workshop the log will focus on the daily connections the author discovers in local circumstances. For example, a collection of notes, observations, facts, quotations, original texts, events of weather, private life, news, lists, collages, drawings, photographs, videos, recordings and, anything notable that comes to mind or hand each day.
In the words of Horn: \u2018A Log is composed of daily singular or multiple entries of observation and recognition, each one borne of and locked into its own historic moment in time and place. This iterative accumulation of attention paid is palimpsest to a sensibility, the participants\u2019 unique point of view, a voice, a way through. This approach places emphasis on being where you are when you\u2019re there. Attention, focus, connection are the essential acts, the essential tools. The actual form a log may take is entirely in the hands of the participant\u2018.<\/p>\n

A log\u2014 not descriptive, not illustrative, not telling.
A log\u2014 a collection, an assembly, a synthesis, an accumulation.<\/p>\n

This workshop is in conjunction with the exhibition that Roni Horn will be presenting at Centro Bot\u00edn in Santander from 1 April to 10 September 2023, entitled I am paralyzed with hope (Me paraliza la esperanza). The exhibition has carefully conceived by Horn in dialogue with the exhibition rooms, architecture, light and visitors flow.<\/p>\n

Roni Horn\u2019s heterogeneous practice focuses on conceptually oriented photography, sculpture, drawing and books that defy any fixed classifications. Her intellectually rigorous and emotionally profound work reflects on process of becoming in relation to identity and location.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Roni Horn\u2019s solo exhibitions include: Kunsthalle Basel (1995), Centre Pompidou (2003), Tate Modern (2009), Whitney Museum of American Art (2009), Kunsthalle Bregenz (2010), Kunsthalle Hamburg (2011), Fundaci\u00f3 Joan Mir\u00f3 Barcelona (2014), De Pont Foundation, Tilburg (1994, 1998, 2016), Fondation Beyeler (2016, 2020), Glenstone Museum, Potomac, MD (2017), Pinakothek der Moderne Munich (2018), The Drawing Institute at The Menil Collection, Houston, TX (2018-2019), and the Pola Museum of Art, Hakone, Japan (2021-2022).<\/p>\n

Artist\u2019s books include: To Place, an ongoing series of publications that is central to Horn\u2019s practice. Initiated in 1989 and continuing through to the present, the series is currently comprised of ten volumes. Each volume is a unique dialogue addressing the relationship between identity and place. The books take as their starting point \u2013 Iceland and the evolving experiences of the author in this country. Further artist\u2019s books by Roni Horn include Another Water (The River Thames, for Example) (1st edition 2000, 2nd editon 2011), This is Me, This is You (2001), Wonderwater (Alice Offshore) (2004), Index Cixous (Cix Pax) (2005), Weather Reports You \/ Ve\u00f0ri\u00f0 vitnar um \u00deig (2007), Her\u00f0ubrei\u00f0 at Home (2007), Roni Horn aka Roni Horn: Catalog & Subject Index (2009), 82 Postcards (2017) and Remembered Words\u2014A Specimen Concordance (2019).<\/p>\n

Horn has received numerous awards. Among them 3 NEA Fellowships, a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1990, the Alpert Award in 1998 and the Joan Miro prize in 2013.<\/p>\n

Isabel de Naver\u00e1n<\/strong> (Getxo, 1976)<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Isabel de Naver\u00e1n investigates the intersection between art, contemporary choreography and performance in curatorship, editing and writing projects. The concern for the passage and use of time underlies her research, focused on bodily transmission and the revision of the concept of historical time from ephemeral and fugitive practices.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In 2010 she founded, together with Beatriz Cavia, Miren Jaio and Leire Vergara, Bulegoa Zenbaki Barik \u2013 Art and Knowledge Office in Bilbao, a project to which she remains linked until 2018.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

She received a doctorate cum laude in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country. Since 2017, she has been working as a curator of dance and performance in the Department of Public Activities of the Reina Sof\u00eda Museum, in Madrid, work that she combines with her period as an associate researcher at Azkuna Zentroa, Bilbao, where she develops La ola en la mente (2021-2023), a proposal focused on somatic writing as a form of curatorship.<\/p>\n

In 2022 she published her first books: Envoltura, historia y s\u00edncope (Caniche editorial) and Ritual de duelo (Consonni editorial) in what represents a strong commitment to writing.<\/p>\n

Requirements<\/strong>
The workshop is open to artists and writers.
Please note that the workshop will be carried out in English and that participants to the workshop are expected to stay for its entire duration.<\/p>\n

Materials<\/strong>
Fundaci\u00f3n Bot\u00edn will provide workspace and materials per the instructions of the workshop director.
Participants should bring materials and tools they are likely to work with.
If working with visual or written material, A4 format is to be used.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Support<\/strong>
Fundaci\u00f3n Bot\u00edn provides accommodation and breakfast to all participating artists who are not residents of Cantabria.
In addition, each participating artist will also receive a stipend of 245.-\u20ac as support for the cost of living expenses; it will be handed out at the beginning of the workshop, after each participant has submitted all the necessary administrative data.<\/p>\n

Selection<\/strong>
A maximum of 15 participants will be chosen by the director of the workshop.
Fundaci\u00f3n Bot\u00edn\u2019s decision shall be final.<\/p>\n

Deadline for applications is 19 February 2023.
The selected candidates will be contacted by Fundaci\u00f3n Bot\u00edn from 27 February, 2023. All other candidates may consult the results on the website.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Documentation of recent work (MPEG, audio files as well as PDF) and\/or links to videos and web sites, as well as information that allows knowing their abilities or areas of expertise and if they are familiar with Roni Horn\u2019s work.<\/p>\n

Confirmation of participation<\/strong>
Those selected must confirm their acceptance within the terms and forms indicated by Fundaci\u00f3n Bot\u00edn.
The reservation of a place will be considered formalised once a copy of the travel tickets to Santander that certify the participant travel plans on the dates of the workshop has been received.
The participants are responsible for the planning and financial underwriting of their travel to and from Santander.<\/p>\n
